Abstract

997,599. Valves. EDWARD BARBER & CO. Ltd. Nov. 8, 1963 [Jan. 4, 1963], No. 497/63. Heading F2V. In a slow closing tap for passing a predetermined volume of flow, a piston 7, containing the closure washer 6 within a plug 12, is raised from the seat by engagement of a cam 13, rotated upon a spindle 14 by handle 18, within the rod 8. The operating handle 18 is urged to the valve closed position by a torsion spring 20. When the valve is opened, fluid slowly passes through leakage apertures or grooves to the space between piston 7 and plug 12 which thereby slowly closes even if the piston 7 is held in an elevated position. The opening of the valve and hence the volume discharged is regulated by a stop screw 21 which, in an alternative embodiment, is secured to the stem 8.
