Abstract

1,029,027. Valves. SHANKS & CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1964, No. 50662/64. Heading F2V. In a slow closing tap, water flows from inlet 21 through ports 38 in a cylindrical member 32 and through ports 26 in a housing member to 5 an outlet 27, as a closure member 48, upon spindle 20, is displaced therewith from a seat 30 against the action of spring 44 by the rotation of a control knob 1 and the engagement of a roller 8 thereof, guided in helical slots 7 of stationary member 3, with a head 42 upon spindle 20. The cylindrical member 32 is provided with a passage 41 into which projects a by-pass needle 51, fixed to spindle 20 by a nut 53, whereby, upon depression of spindle 20 to open the valve, fluid is forced out of the base of cylinder 32 past cup-shaped member 54, and, to a lesser extent, via passage 41; when the control knob 1 is released closing of the valve is delayed by the dashpot action of member 54 as water enters the cylinder 32 via passage 41. Downward movement of knob 1 is limited by an adjustable stop 14.
