Abstract
927,682. Valves. H. G. FREDLINE & CO. PTY Ltd. Oct. 13, 1959 [Oct. 16, 1958], No. 34603/59. Class 135. A mixing valve is provided with a mixing chamber 24, Fig. 1, having an outlet 13 and hot and cold water inlets, each controlled by a valve 26 with a disc of plastic that co-operates with a seat 25, the latter being extended to form a guide 20 that is slotted to enable water to enter the chamber 24 as soon as the valve is unseated. The opposite and rounded ends of the valves 26 are contacted by a disc 29 embodying pins 30, Fig. 8, that engage arcuate cam lugs 32 in a plate 33 which is rotatable by a temperature regulating member 38, Fig. 1, having spaced green and red buttons 42, the rotation being limited by a lug 43 on the disc 29, which lug engages the rounded ends of the valves. A volume control spindle 44 threaded into the stem 35 of the plate 33 is bored to house the shank 45 of an actuating plate 46 which abuts the disc 29 and is provided with a pair of recesses also registering with the cam lugs 32 and engaged by the pin 30 so that the disc 29, the actuating plate 46, and plate 33 rotate in unison. With the member 38 disposed so that the buttons 42 are horizontal and the lug 43 vertical the valves 26 are opened together and to the same extent by the water pressure in the inlets upon rotating the spindle 44 so that it moves axially outwardly, the disc 29 adopting the position shown in Fig. 8; to vary the degree of opening of each valve, and hence to allow different quantities of hot and cold water into the chamber 24, the member 38 is rotated the desired amount in one direction to move the disc 29 obliquely in the manner of a swash-plate. Each valve 26 may embody a stem 54 of sufficient length passing through its seat 25, the longer stem offering a greater restriction to water flow in the partly closed valve position. The plate 33 is rotatably retained between a valve cover 16 and valve body 10 connected by screws 15, the whole device being mounted in a wall 50 with a contact sheet 52 interposed between the latter and the member 38, which member is spring-loaded against the sheet 52 to cater for different wall thicknesses and mounting positions.
