Abstract
724,366. Valves. ROSS, J. C. July 20, 1953, No. 20043/53. Class 135. A faucet comprises a main housing 10 within which is fitted a removable valve housing 25 containing a closure member which has a conical seating surface 44 to coact with a seat 37 and a conical stem 43 passing through a similarly shaped bore 38 in the housing 25 to a dashpot chamber 32 where it is engaged by a piston 50. When the closure member is seated the conical stem 43 also fits closely in the bore 38. Small holes 39 extend from the lower end of the bore 38 to the chamber 32 to eliminate the restriction of flow through the bore 38. The valve is opened by depression of the piston 50 through a rod 52 and knob 58 fixed to a sleeve 56 slidable on a post 55 and is closed, under control of the piston 50, by inlet pressure acting on the closure member. The provision of a fixed cam 63 and a radial pin on the rod. 52 permit adjustment of the extent to which the valve member closes, and also allow opening and closing of the valve member, by partial rotation of the sleeve 56. An interchangeable throttling bush 70 is fitted. In a modification, the valve may be held open by engagement of a radial pin fixed to the post 55 with notches in an axial slot in the sleeve 56.
