[Classes 75 (i) and 126] [Also in Group XXIX] In a portable stove or lamp comprising a box 10, a burner 14 therein and a lid 11 formed as a fuel container and in communication with the burner through conduits 19, 23 and one or more valves 21, the relatively movable elements of the valves are connected one to the lid and one to the box and are adapted to permit the flow of fuel only when the lid is open. The fuel conduit 19 may be connected as in Fig. 4 to a conduit 20 in a plug cock 21 hingedly connected with the lid supporting arm 17, the end of conduit 20 registering when the lid is open with an opening in the cock housing 18 leading by a pipe 23, Fig. 1, to the burner, and the air in the container 11 being at the same time connected with the atmosphere through a pipe 25, a conduit 26 in the arm 17 and a conduit 27 in the cock to an aperture 28 in the cock housing open to the atmosphere. Alternatively the container may be connected to the atmosphere through an additional hinge valve. A coiled upper part 29 of the pipe 25 serves as an air seal against the entrance of fuel. The fuel supply is controlled, Fig. 1, by an adjustable needle valve 24 or, Fig. 4, by the inclination of the lid, which is varied against the pressure of a spring 35 by the engagement of an externally operated screw 32 against a projecting lip 34 on the lid arm 17. The openings of the cock or cock housing may be shaped to permit diminishingly fine control of the fuel supply by this method.
