Abstract

705,435. Shipping cases. GRANT, J. R. Oct. 15, 1951, No. 24004/51. Class 18 A shipping case, made from a blank, comprises a bottom, side and end panels, with extensions on the side panels passed through slots in the end panels and folded upon themselves, extensions on the end panels being folded over the side panel extensions. A partition, liner and a cover are provided. No stapling or glueing of the case is necessary. One embodiment, the blank for which is shown in Fig. 2 comprises a bottom 10, side walls 11 and 12 and end walls 14 and 16. Extensions 19 on the side walls have further extensions 20 and 21. which are threaded through a slot 18 in the end wall 14 and then folded against each other and against end wall 14, the other end of the box being similarly folded. An extension 31 on the end wall folds over the extensions 20, 21, a flange 32 being folded over the bottom of the case; flanges 33 fold against the side walls 11, 12 and are held in position by folded down extensions 51, 52 of the side walls, flanges 53, 54 on these extensions lying on the bottom of the case. A partition formed from the blank shown in Fig. 5 has walls 35, 36, flanges 37 on these walls engaging the side walls 11, 12 of the case, and flanges 40 serving to hold walls 35 and 36 apart. Aninner bottom panel 55 rests on those flanges which lie on the bottom 10, and in another embodiment has extensions lying against the side walls. A cover, formed from the blank shown in Fig. 6, has tongues 63 fitting in slots 56 in extensions 30 of the end walls. and a tongue 60 fitting in a slot 57 in the partition. In another embodiment side wall extensions 51, 52 are omitted and a liner inserted having a panel fitting over the base of the case and extensions abutting the side walls.
