Abstract

705,124. Pipe couplings. ALLTOOLS, Ltd., HAILER, A. H., and SAUNDERS, F. S. Oct. 24, 1952 [Feb. 5, 1952], No. 3031/52. Class 99 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] In a coupling for transmitting hydrostatic pressures in a conduit 14, e.g. connecting 'a weighing unit and a pressure gauge, and comprising spigot ends 16, 17 provided with flexible diaphragms 19, 26 and connected together by a nut 29 having an aperture 33 permitting the escape of air from between the diaphragms during the coupling of the spigot ends, the spigot ends have narrow bores 18, 24 and shallow wider recesses 20, 25, and the skirt portions of the diaphragms 19, 26 have beads 23, 27 which engage in circumferential retaining grooves in the spigot ends. Excessive clamping pressure on the abutting faces of the diaphragms is prevented, e.g. by. encircling the skirt portions of the diaphragms with abutting metal distance pieces 31, 32. There may be air vents 34 in the spigot ends leading from the recesses 20, 25 to outlets 35 containing ball valves 36 held against seatings 38 by screws 37.
