Abstract

739,267. Pipe joints. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 9, 1953 [June 10, 1952], No. 14595/52. Class 99 (1). An expansion joint comprises a substantially rigid annular plate 5 pivotally and fluid-tightly mounted with respect to the pipe 2 at its inner edge 9, and similarly mounted with respect to a socket or flange 3 of a pipe 1 at its outer edge 6. The edges of the plate are rounded and are received in recesses 7, 10, which are formed partly in flange 3 and pipe 2 respectively and partly in rings 8, 12 bolted to the flange and pipe. Fluid-tightness is maintained by a flexible, annular diaphragm 13 clamped between the rings and the pipe 2 and flange 3. In a modification each pipe is engaged by the inner edge of an annular plate, the outer edges of the plates being mounted in a sleeve surrounding the aligned pipes.
