Abstract

777,023. Pipe joints. JOHNSON CORPORATION. Nov. 15, 1955 [Dec. 27, 1954], No. 32670/55. Class 99(1) [Also in Group XIII] A split ring 72 seated in an annular recess 70 formed in and adjacent the end 68 of a pipe 66 has an outer surface which is inclined outwardly toward that end and complementary to an interior surface 78 of an annular flange 74, and a second annular flange 80 has an interior annular groove 82 extending from a side face 86 thereof, there being means to urge the flanges toward each other with the end of the pipe seated in the groove. As shown, the ring 72 is of truncated conical form and comprises two or more segmental portions, and a sealing gasket 89 seated against a shoulder 88 at the base of the groove 82 is held in place by the end 68 of the pipe 66. The flanges 74, 80 are connected together by studs 92 screwed into the flange 80 and the latter is provided with holes 96, counterbored at 98, and. secured to the end of a conduit 106 byscrews 100. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the flange 80 has an internal screw-threaded portion for receiving the, conduit. The joint transmits rotary motion from a drying drum 10, Fig. 1, to the pipe. 66 of a rotary joint 50.
