Abstract

893,510. Expansion joints. TEDDINGTON AIRCRAFT CONTROLS Ltd. March 24, 1961 [Feb. 2, 1960], No. 3670/60. Class 99(1). In a flexible pipe joint incorporating a bellows and means to restrain the deflection of the bellows, that means comprises a rigid metal tube 1, Fig. 1, coaxial with the bellows 2 and provided at each end thereof with a ring 3 having bearing surfaces registering with surfaces on the end flanges 4 of the bellows and maintained in contact therewith by internal pressure, at least one of each pair of registering surfaces forming part of a sphere. The surfaces on the flanges may be in the form of inserts of suitable bearing material, and there may be small holes in the tube for equalization of the pressure between the interiors of the bellows and tube. In a modification, Fig. 2, the tube 6 is disposed externally of the bellows 5.
