702,687. Continuous casting-machines. BOHLER & CO. AKT.-GES., GEB. June 12, 1951 [June 12, 1950], No. 13941/51. Class 83 (1) The casting emerging from a continuous casting-machine is cooled by tangential streams of a gaseous cooling medium directed on to the casting in a number of planes. The casting 1 passes through a casing 2 into which open, in five planes spaced along the length of the casting, sets of pipes 3 and deflectors 4, the pipes being supplied with air carrying finely-divided drops of water. The nozzles of the central plane or planes may supply a greater volume of cooling air than those in the marginal planes, or alternatively a general downward flow may be obtained by supplying a greater volume of cooling air at the upper part of the casing and by partially covering the upper end of the casing. The air supplied at different planes may carry different proportions of atomized water.
