Abstract

713,009. Granulating metals. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Nov. 7, 1952 [Aug. 21, 1951], No. 19691/51. Class 82 (2) Molten metal is atomized by the use of an inert gas and cooled by a liquid in the form of a finely dispersed spray or mist supplied in such quantity that in chilling the metal below its freezing point, the whole of the cooling liquid is evaporated. The cooling liquid may be mixed with the atomizing gas prior to its issuing from the atomizing nozzle. Metal issues from an orifice 1 and is atomized by a jet of gas from atomizing nozzle 4. The liquid is introduced into the gas stream by a pipe 7 communicating with a container 8 the interior of which is under pressure. Cooling liquid might be introduced through the jet 13. The invention may be used in the method described in Specification 712,699.
