Abstract

699,977. Cathode materials and processing. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. Feb. 15, 1952 [May 3, 1951], No. 10393/51. Class 39(i) The cathode core or filament is coated with a mixture of one or more carbonates of alkaline earth metal and a compound of one or more of nickel, cobalt, tungsten, molybdenum, platinum, iridium, osmium, rhodium, and ruthenium which is reduced by heat, with or without a reducing agent, to produce metal which is 10-90 per cent of the coating, the alkaline oxide being produced by the further step of heating the coating. The coating may be applied to a nickel sleeve or a tungsten or nickel filament by dipping, spraying or electrophoresis, and the metal compound may be reduced at the same time as the carbonate is reduced to oxide. Specified proportions of barium and strontium carbonate and nickel formate may be ballmilled in butylacetate and a binder consisting of nitrocellulose, diethyl oxalate, amyl acetate and ethyl alcohol to form a dip or spray paste.
