Abstract
462,706. Thermionic cathodes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 17, 1936, No. 4808. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] A directly or indirectly heated cathode consists mainly of one of the metals tungsten, molybdenum or tantalum in combination with chromium and an oxide of one of the following : thorium, cerium, yttrium and lanthamun. One form consists of an alloy consisting of molybdenum or tungsten with specified amounts of thoria and chromium. In other forms the chromium and oxide as a mixture are applied as a coating to the main metal; in other modifications, the chromium is coated on to a thoriated metal, or the metal is first chromium plated and then a coating of thoria provided on this plating. The filament may be seasoned by applying normal voltages for a period in an oscillating circuit. The cathode may be coated with emitting coatings of barium and strontium oxide for use in low voltage tubes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the oxides of zirconium, uranium, titanium, or vanadium may be used instead of thoria &c. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
