Abstract

729,819. Cathode materials. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd. Dec. 4, 1952 [Dec. 18, 1951], No. 29623/51. Class 39 (1). Alkaline earth is converted to zirconate by heating on a zirconium wire to form the cathode. The wire may consist of tungsten which contains 1-10 per cent of zirconium or is coated with zirconium powder or of a zirconium wire wound on a tungsten support which is wound onto a helix and coated with oxide or carbonate or silicate of alkaline earth metal such as barium or strontium. The cathode is heated to 1500 ‹ C. in an inert gas or vacuum, preferably within the electric discharge lamp, to produce zirconate.
