Abstract
316,104. Westinghouse Lamp Co., (Assignees of Fredenburgh, M. N.). July 20, 1928, [Convention date]. Vacuum tubes.-In the manufacture of oxide coated cathodes in which a filament is coated with alkaline earth carbonates mixed with or protected by a binder, such as a solution of cellulose nitrate, deterioration on ageing is prevented by the use of pure carbonates, prepared as described in Specifications 315,324 and 315,801, together with solvents for the binder which are completely vaporizable in vacuo and do not react with the carbonates to produce compounds deleterious to emission, or if reactive with the carbonates, produce compounds which are totally dissociated by the heat employed in the seasoning of the cathodes. As solvents, diethyl carbonate and diethyl oxalate are employed, either alone or in mixture; proportions and directions are given for the preparation of the coating material. To the solvents mentioned, anhydrous alcohols of lower boiling points may be added. Specification 315,800 also is referred to.
