Abstract
696,161. Oil-blast circuit-breakers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 20, 1951 [June 23, 1950], No. 14638/51. Class 38 (v) A breaker unit includes an insulating baffle structure 39 having a central arcing passage 40, a channel 42 communicating therewith and a pair of supplementary divergent arcing passages 45, 46 opposite the channel 42. The blast is produced by the pressure generated in a space 27 by the arc formed between resiliently-mounted contacts 14, 15 and passes through apertures in insulating plates 29, 30 to a space 28 and hence through the channel 42 into passage 40 to blow the arc formed between contacts 13, 15 into one or other of the passages 45, 46 where it is extinguished. The passages 45, 46 have parts A so as to retain the arc looped within the structure 39, and a barrier 48 prevents the arc from wandering into channel 42.
