Abstract

589,270. Heavy-current switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 21, 1945, No. 7138. Convention date, March 24, 1944. [Class 38 (v)] A gas cooling arrangement for the exhaust gases from an arc-extinguishing chamber in an electric switch comprises a series of alternate U-shaped and 0-shaped metallic members 35, 34 arranged at the upper end of the chamber to provide a discontinuous labyrinth. The arcextinguishing chamber may be constructed as described in Specification 589,277, the gases being vented to atmosphere at 33, after passage between the members 34, 35. The members 34, 35 may be of copper plated steel and the members 34 may be perforated at 36.
