Abstract

634,796. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. April 21, 1947, No. 10553. Convention date, April 23, 1946. [Class 38 (v)] The gas - blast circuitbreaker of Specification 588,182 is modified by forming the blast chamber in two (or more) parts d<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>11</SP>, one above the other, and pressure gas is applied to the upper part d<SP>11</SP> through the space between the transverse walls g<SP>1</SP>, g<SP>2</SP>, which terminate in arc-runners c<SP>11</SP>, c<SP>12</SP>, formed in an insulating connector n, also containing exhaust passages from part d<SP>1</SP>. The part of the arc between electrodes c<SP>11</SP>, c<SP>12</SP> is thus blown into the upper part dll wherein it extends as a loop between those electrodes, and fresh gas is constantly supplied to the central part of the arc to prevent re-ignition. The arrangement is stated to increase the voltage-gradient throughout the arc and hence the arc-voltage for a given arclength.
