Abstract
696,015. Balls for games. "LICENCIA" TALALMANYOKAT ERTEKESITO VALLALAT. Jan. 17. 1952. (July 4, 1951] No. 1412/52. Class 132 (ii). [Also in Group XXIX] A valve for inflatable articles such as sports balls consists of a rubber &c. body having inner and outer flanges 9, 8, Fig. 1, two tapering, flat slits 12, 13 meeting at a point between the flanges and lying in intersecting planes, e.g. planes at right-angles to each other, and a reinforcing ring 11, e.g. of metal, in a recess between the flanges and surrounding the point at which the slits 12, 13 meet. The flange 9 is cemented to an inflatable bladder 14. For inflation, a nozzle 19 is inserted into the slit 12 and the slit 13 acts as a check valve, whilst for deflation the nozzle is passed through both slits into the bladder. Instead of the ring 11, the reinforcement may be provided by the part of the bladder surrounding the aperture 16 therein. In the form shown in Fig. 5 the reinforcement is by a leather washer 21, and the valve body has a tapered stem 22 which fits tightly in an opening 17 in an outer cover 15 of the article and may be cut off flush with the surface of the cover. The valve may also be applied to pneumatic tyres (see Group XXIX).
