An inflatable life-jacket comprises an air container having at one end an aperture intended to pass over the wearer's head before inflation, the parts of said container which surround said aperture being fashioned as a collar, which when the container is inflated, automatically constrict inwardly to grip the wearer at each side of the neck and at the back of the head, the inward pressure of such collar being sufficient to support the head firmly and to obviate the necessity for means of attachment other than a belt or strap at the waist. As shown, the jacket is constructed from three shaped panels A, B, C, of rubberized fabric. The corresponding outer edges of the panels A, B, are seamed together, leaving the inner part of the collar to be completed by the third panel C, the sinuous shaped edge C<SP>2</SP> of this panel being attached to the inner edge A<SP>4</SP> of the panel A, whilst the substantially straight edge C<SP>1</SP> is seamed to the inner edge B<SP>4</SP> of the panel B. Waist straps E which are attached each at one end to the lower part of the panel B are provided for fastening the lower part of the jacket to the body. The dilation of the lower portion of the jacket is restrained by a reed D which is secured to the panels A,.B. The jacket may be moulded in indiarubber, synthetic resin, &c., or may be fashioned from panels of synthetic resin or other plastic sheet material.
