Abstract
745,184. Inflating valves. DUDSON, T. Sept. 17, 1954 [Sept. 17, 1953], No. 25767/53. Class 135. A valve for inflatable balls, e.g. footballs, netballs, &c., comprises a tube 17, Fig. 3, of rubber &c. into which is drawn a rubber cord 21 of larger normal diameter than the bore 18 of the tube, one end of the cord passing through a lateral aperture 19 in the tube where it is secured by stitching or by a fibre pin. The ends of the cord are cut off flush with the tube. The complete valve is secured by adhesion to a short, inward or outward, tubular extension of the ball or bladder. The tube 17 may be slightly conical on its outer surface and formed at its outer end with a flange. In a modification the tube is extended to facilitate handling, the extended part 27, Fig. 12, being halved longitudinally as shown. This valve can be secured by adhesive in an ordinary bladder tube 32, Fig. 16, which may have a lateral opening 33. Inflation is effected by a hollow needle which has an enlarged shoulder to form a seal with the bore 18 when the needle has been fully inserted between the lower part of the bore 18 and the cord 21.
