Abstract
692,619. Hand turning-gear. FICHTEL & SACHS AKT.-GES. Jan. 20, 1950 [Jan. 20, 1949], No. 1578/50. Class 7 (v). In a manually operable engine starting device comprising a starting shaft c coaxial with the engine crankshaft and movable axially in relation thereto, clutch members d. e on the starting and crankshafts respectively, and a helically toothed pinion b on the shaft c and permanently in mesh with a rotatable helically toothed starting segment a, there is provided means, such as spring f applying a braking action on the shaft c, whereby upon actuation of the segment a by a hand lever for example, the shaft c is moved to engage the clutch member d, e, the shaft c being moved in the reverse direction to disengage the clutch members when the crankshaft speed exceeds that of the starting shaft.
