598,905. Variable pitch propellers. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. Jan. 17, 1945, No. 1444. Convention date, Nov. 29. 1943. [Class 114] To ensure that the driving engine of a ship is started only when the variable pitch propeller is in its zero pitch position, a device is incorporated in the engine starting gear to render this inoperative when the propeller control gear is away from the no-pitch position. The valve 19 in the starting air line of an internal-combustion engine is normally held in a closed position by the spring 17. When the variable pitch propeller control lever 15 is in the zero pitch position, the spring-loaded detent 11 depresses the bell-crank 14 and so opens the valve 19 to allow engine starting.
