690,140. Securing coils for dynamo-electric machines; cooling dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 13, 1951 [Aug. 16, 1950], No. 19033/51. Class 35. The rotor of a turbo-alternator has its end turns 12a secured by a retaining ring 19 made substantially of titanium. The end turns 12a may or may not be encased in a moulded composition 18 such as of asbestos and mica. A fan 17 circulates a cooling medium, e.g. hydrogen through an external cooler, not shown, holes 121 in a centring ring 120, between spacers 122 and then through axial rotor passages 126 after which the coolant passes through perforated barriers 127 and finally through radial passages 14 provided in the stator core.
