Abstract

509,359. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. BARLOW, E., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. April 19, 1938, No. 11785. [Class 35] In a machine wherein the stator windings project to a comparatively great distance beyond the core, parts of the end windings project through a baffle into the air intake chamber so as to be cooled by the air before it reaches a rotary portion of the machine. In the form shown, baflles 5, 13 are traversed by the parts 12 of the stator end windings so that the air or gas entering the machine passes over these parts before it reaches the fan 4 and the other parts of the windings. The air or gas may be circulated in a closed circuit including an external water cooler and a separately driven external fan may be used.
