Abstract
214,944. Ehrmann, P. April 27, 1923, [Convention date]. Armatures and field magnets, cooling and ventilating; motors, cooling.-An arrangement for cooling enclosed motors comprises the circulation of an enclosed stream of air through the rotor and over a section 6, Fig. 2, of the external surface of the stator iron, to which it transfers its heat for conduction to a stream of atmospheric air which is passed over the remaining section 4 of the said surface. The stator laminations are provided with heat-radiating vanes 11<1> - - 11<8> of which the set 11<1> only receives heat from the enclosed circulating air stream, and the remainder give up heat to the stream of atmospheric air. The internal air is circulated by a fan 35 through passages 33 in the rotor and through chambers 24, 25 in a hood 18 communicating with the chamber in which the vanes 11<1> are located, as shown in the upper half of Fig. 3, and the atmospheric air is drawn through the machine by a fan 36 as shown in the lower half of the Figure. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also the provision of slots 48, Fig. 14 (Cancelled), in the motor casing through which project heat-radiating vanes 10 formed on the stator laminations, the motor being enclosed in a drum 50 to enable a current of air to be drawn over the vanes by the aid of a ventilating-shaft 51 or a pump. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
