Abstract

Dynamos and motors, cooling. - In a closed cooling system for dynamo - electric machines in which air or other gas is used as a cooling medium and the coolers are arranged outside the machine, the path of the cooling medium is subdivided into sections arranged in series, each section comprising a machine or part of a machine and a cooler, and the flow of cooling medium in one or more of the sections may be subdivided in parallel paths. In Fig. 1, a machine 1 is cooled by air or gas which is circulated by a fan 2, driven directly or indirectly from the shaft of the machine, in two paths arranged in series, coolers 3, 4 being disposed in the paths. In a modification, electric machines 1, 5, Fig. 4, are cooled in series by two independent currents of air or gas circulated by fans 2, 6. In another arrangement the air is circulated by a single fan in two parallel paths through each machine.
