751,256. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES. March 19, 1954 [March 20, 1953], No. 8194/54. Class 35. In a machine stated to be for high voltage the stator conductors which are side by side or superimposed in the slot are hollow and have hollow end winding conductors, the centre parts of which have inlets for cooling fluid. As shown, air or gas, which may be hydrogen under pressure, is passed into the right-hand end windings by fan 7, flows through to the chamber 5 at the other end, thence through apertures 8, 9 into the fluid discharge duct. Alternatively, only alternate conductors (or alternate groups of conductors) are fed at one end of the machine, the others being traversed by fluid fed in at the other end, a second fan 2 being provided for this purpose. In yet another form, fluid can be fed into all the end windings at both ends and escape into a central radial duct in the centre of the stator by providing apertures in the slot conductor walls in this region. Additional fans 11, 12 circulate fluid through the rotor and stator core ducts as shown. The fluid passed through the hollow conductors may also be passed through tubes in the parts of an enclosed machine in such manner that the internal air of the machine can flow over said tubes. A water cooler may be provided for the fluid circulating and the latter may be liquid, e.g. oil. The hollow slot conductors may be of the form described in Specification 737,856.
