Abstract
725,211. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. May 8, 1953 [May 16, 1952], No. 12954/53. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVI] In a machine with terminal bushings projecting through a gas-tight machine casing, the terminal stud has longitudinal passages therein for the passage of cooling gas. As shown, some of the high pressure hydrogen from fan 16 traverses tubes 43 and is discharged as jets towards the inlet aperture 41 in leads 28 secured to the tubular terminal posts 32 which have a central baffle 33 with an opening near the closed external end to allow the gas to flow down one side of the baffle, back over the other side of the baffle and return to the machine interior by radial apertures 42. Other gas from the fans flows over the end windings into longitudinal ducts 22 at the stator core periphery, then through some of the radial core ducts to the air gap, back through other such ducts to the stator periphery and over the coolers 26 and divides to flow towards the machine ends.
