Abstract

A magnesium-base alloy has the following composition: Li greater than 0.5 per cent and less than 5.7 per cent; Zr 0.4-0.9 per cent; one or more rare earth metals 0.5-15.0 per cent; Mg, at least 80 per cent, the remainder. The alloy may also contain one or more of the following elements: Zn up to 12.0 per cent; Cd up to 18.9 per cent; Th up to 10.0 per cent; Hg up to 10.0 per cent; Ag up to 10.0 per cent; Ba up to 2.0 per cent; Sr up to 2.0 per cent; Ca up to 2.0 per cent; Pb up to 2.0 per cent; Be up to 0.1 per cent; Na less than 0.1 per cent. Specifications 511,137 and 637,040 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 652,223.
