Abstract

An alloy solution treated above 550 DEG C has the following composition: Mg at least 80 per cent, Li from 0.2 per cent to less than 5.7 per cent, one or more rare earth metals 0.5-15.0 per cent; the alloy may also contain one or more of the following elements: Zn up to 12.0 per cent, Cd up to 19.3 per cent, Th up to 10.0 per cent, Hg up to 10.0 per cent, Ag up to 10.0 per cent, Ba up to 2.0 per cent, Sr up to 2.0 per cent, Ca up to 2.0 per cent, Pb up to 2.0 per cent, Be up to 0.1 per cent Al up to 12.0 per cent, Mn up to 10.0 per cent, In up to 10.0 per cent, Tl up to 10.0 per cent, Na less than 0.1 per cent.
