687,785. Washing-machines. PROCTOR, R. H., and LUMLEY, H. April 11. 1951. [May 3, 1950] No. 10975/50. Class 138 (ii). In a washing-machine wherein the clothes and washing liquid are agitated by means of compressed air, the washing compartment comprises a curved wall 4 located between spaced side walls, and deflecting means spaced from the curved wall and forming a chamber having inlet and outlet means for compressed air which is directed by the deflecting means along the wall to set up a rotary circulation of the liquid. The deflecting means may comprise a curved baffle plate 11 detachably secured in position by clip means 12, 13, the upper margin of the plate 11 being provided with perforations or slots 14 for the air. Air is supplied to the inlet 7 through a union 10 and conduit 8 provided at its lower end with an outlet cock 9. The washing compartment is closed at the top by a curved baffle plate 4a, having a straight portion 4b forming an inlet 6 for the clothes. A door 15 which is preferably transparent is slidable in guides 16. Compressed air may be supplied by a vacuum cleaner, or by a compressor or pump mounted on the machine.
