Abstract

724,376. Rotary clothes-drying apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 17, 1953 [Sept. 18, 1952], No. 25731/53. Class 34 (2). [Also in Group XXIX]. A tumbler drier with perforate drums 13 ' enclosed by a casing 12 and having a spray-condenser for removing lint and moisture from the drying air has means for introducing water into the sump 39 to form a pool 40 therein, a rotatably mounted impeller 46 in the sump to produce a finely divided spray of water to scrub the air and agitate the pool to retain the lint in suspension by its rotation and a pump 41 to discharge water and entrained lint from the sump. The impeller 46, carried on a shaft 43 has helical vanes 47 and the shaft 43 which is also the pump operating shaft carries an impeller' 49 which delivers water and lint into the casing of the pump 41. Water is supplied through an inlet fixture including a strainer, flow regulator and solenoid operated control valve to a jet nozzle from which it is projected into the condensing chamber 36 below a baffle 31. In a modification (Fig. 5) the operating shaft 143 driving the impeller 146 is vertical and the pump 142 is arranged below the central portion of the sump 139.
