Abstract

710,054. Drying clothes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 28, 1952 [Aug. 29, 1951], No. 21645/52. Class 34(2) In a method of drying clothes in a machine having a perforated basket 6 rotatably supported in a casing 5 a mixture of humid air and lint after passing through the perforations of the basket is collected in a channel 34 at the bottom of the casing, then sucked through a fan 42 to a flow or spray of cold water and intermingled with the cold water is discharged as waste. The casing 5 has a longitudinal slot 33 and the channel 34 secured to the casing has a closed end 35 and a removable cover 36 at its other end. The fan 42 has its intake communicating with the channel 33 and its discharge outlet 45 coupled by a flexible hose 44 to an aspirator 46 into which is discharged cold water from a faucet 49. Lint is swept from the casing 5 by brushes 58 housed within the cavities provided by tumbling ribs 16 and falls into channel 34 whence it passes with the air stream through fan 42 into tube 44. The humid air is cooled by the cold water spray in the aspirator and the condensed moisture and entrained lint pass into tub 51, the lint being retained by a strainer 53. The brushes act as pump vanes to drive air entering by louvres 24, 23 and passing over heater 20 into the basket and to drive. moist air into the channel 34 which channel has an outwardly directed flange 37 in contact with the casing throughout its length and an inwardly directed flange 38 which is fluted to provide small inflow passages 40 through which air may flow from the drier cabinet 1. The aspirator may be directly connected to operate continuousuly or it may be controlled by a solenoid operated valve to operate at some particular point of the drier operation.
