Abstract

1,153,856. Washing - machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 12 Sept., 1966 [18 Oct., 1965], No. 40559/66. Heading D1A. A washing-machine with a vertical reciprocating agitator has primary flexible vanes 8 and secondary flexible vanes 10 which vanes 10 are mounted on a collar 9 which is removable. All the blades are formed of polypropylene. In modifications of the agitator the secondary vanes instead of being mounted between the primary vanes are mounted above them and are provided with bifurcated ends to engage the tops of the primary vanes. The machine is driven from a motor 14 through a clutch 15 rotation in one direction operating the agitator only and in the other direction operating both the tub and agitator for spin drying. Two pumps are provided, one of them 29 being an outlet pump and the other 30 for recirculation through the pipes 34, 35, 36, one pump being inoperative whilst the other operates. A solenoid water supply valve 21 is provided and a water level switch 26 is provided. A lint filter may be provided at the top of the agitator to filter the recirculated water from the outlet pipe 36.
