Abstract

1,150,449. Washing-machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 14 Sept., 1966 [20 Sept., 1965], No. 41083/66. Heading D1A. A reciprocating agitator for a washing- machine comprises a set of primary vanes 8 and a set of secondary flexible blades 10. Both sets of blades may be flexible and moulded with the main part of the agitator of polypropylene. The agitator 6 and spin drying basket 2 are driven from a motor 14 through a clutch 15, a transmission assembly 17 and concentric, shafts 12, 13 in such a way that if the motor turns one way the agitator only is reciprocated and if the motor turns the opposite way both the agitator and spin tub are unidirectionally rotated at high speed. An extractor pump 29 and a recirculating pump 30 are provided. A water inlet mixer control 21 has solenoids 22, 23 to control hot and cold water intake and a liquid level control switch 26 is provided. A lint filter may be fitted to the. top of the agitator 6 which filters the water returned to the washing container through the outlet 36 by the pump 30. In a modification the agitator has a flared central skirt which supports the primary vanes.
