Abstract

928,374. Washing-machines. HOOVER Ltd. June 25, 1959 [July 14, 1958], No. 22505/58. Class 138 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A washing-machine comprises a bottom wall 10, side walls 11, and a skirt 12 surrounding a mechanism compartment, the bottom, side walls and skirt being formed as a single moulding. The moulding may be of high density polyethylene, polypropylene or a polycarbonate. Part of the bottom 10 is downwardly stepped along one side to form a heating compartment 28A (Fig. 4) closed by a grille 29 and containing an electric heater. An outlet 35 leads to a volute chamber 37 containing a pump impeller 36. The pump has an outlet passage 42 containing a vertically slidable outlet pipe 50. During washing, the pipe 50 is swung so that a part 56 engages under a retaining block 58 (Fig. 1) whereby a spring-pressed rubber stud 55 closes the end of the pipe 50 and the pump impeller 36 idles. The machine also includes a cable storage compartment 60 closed by a cover 65 pivoted at 67.
