Abstract

990,079. Tumbler driers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 12, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38724/62. Heading F4G. A tumbler drier cabinet 1, Fig. 4, has a receptacle for the laundry articles comprising a stationary curved wall 6 having an opening defined by a rearwardly-extending flange 8.1 in a plane inclining downwardly and forwardly, to which flange is mounted a frusto-conical tumbler member 25 which is rotatable on an axis oblique to the walls of the cabinet by a belt 38 driven by a sheave and idler system from a motor 15. Paddles 32 are mounted in the tumbler member which has a foraminous rear wall 28 for the passage of air from a blower 16 and a plenum chamber 21 which houses a heater (not shown). The flange 8.1 of the stationary wall 6 telelcopes into the rim 25.1 of the tumbler and a sealing strip is positioned therebetween. The cabinet may be formed with a loading door 43 comprising portions 44, 45 of the front and top walls respectively of the cabinet and has a lint screen 46 mounted therein. In modifications both tumbling and stationary drying may be accomplished simultaneously either by attaching rods to the inner side of the door or by mounting an auxiliary drying cabinet 53, Fig. 7, within the door space as by a gasket 54.
