Abstract
493,747. Washing-machines. GOHL, F. March 14, 1938, No. 7842. [Class 138 (ii)] Water is withdrawn from the washing compartment 1 of a washing-machine through a perforated partition 5 into a suction chamber 6 from which it is drawn by a pump 9 and passed through a chamber containing steam-heating pipes 14 and then by a pipe 16 containing a valve 15 to nozzles 2. The nozzles are directed downwardly and cause the goods to travel in a triangular path about a horizontal axis. Air passages 3 of differing diameters may be rotated into or removed wholly from proximity to the jets, whereby more or less air may be drawn in by the water jets. These passages may also be used for the return to the washing compartment of soapy liquid that has had the foam removed. Foam is removed in the chamber 17 containing an inverted conical member 51 loosely resting on top of the pipe 55 and provided with external perforated ribs. The soapy liquid passes to injectors 20 operated by water from the pump controlled by valves, or to the air passages 3 through a pipe, not shown. The dirtiness of the overflow water through the pipe 38 is observed through a window in a box 40. A fresh water supply valve 31 is automatically cut off when the machine is full by means of a float-controlled mechanism 33. The air supply in a modification is controlled by rotatable discs having apertures which are brought more or less into registration to vary the air supply.
