Abstract
<PICT:0404370/IV/1> The circulation of liquid in a kier 1 for treating textile materials with liquids is automatically controlled so that when the level of the liquid in the well 5 of the kier falls below a predetermined point, the supply of steam or other circulating means is cut off, or the actuating means is shut off from the circulating pump. In its simplest form the invention consists in a single float valve placed directly in the well underneath the false bottom of the kier. It is preferred to place the valve 21 outside the kier but in liquid connection therewith. The valve 21 controlls an electrical switch 24 and if the float of the valve sinks too low the switch is opened and the motor 10 driving the pump 9 is stopped. The valve may also be actuated by the level of the liquid 20 above the materials, the motor being stopped if too much liquid collects above the materials, or two control devices may be provided, one actuated by the liquid 20 and the other by the level of the liquid 4. It may be arranged that liquid to the sprinkler 18 is cut off while liquid is still forced through a perforated upright pipe in the kier. More than one upright pipes, separately controlled, may also be provided.
