Abstract

A conductive coating for a self-starting welding electrode (see Group XXII) contains metal powder within the range of from 50 per cent to 65 per cent by weight. In one embodiment the coating consists of 16 per cent of calcium fluoride, 16 per cent of calcium carbonate, 6 per cent of ferro-titanium and ferro-silicon and ferro-manganese, 54 per cent of pulverent iron and 8 per cent of water glass and aluminium silicate. In another example the coating contains 61 per cent of pulverent iron, the percentages of the other constituents varying from those given above.
