Abstract

A welding rod for electric arc welding comprises a coating containing more than 35 per cent by weight of welding metal in powdered form. A further coating of slag-forming material without metal may be provided. The first coating may comprise 78 per cent iron powder, 10 per cent clay, 6 per cent titanium dioxide, 3 per cent wood flour, 2 per cent calcium carbonate, and 1 per cent ferro-manganese, kneaded with siliceous varnish.
