Abstract

685,346. Vehicle locking devices. CHAN, H. H. Jan. 6, 1951, No. 470/51. Class 79 (iii) A locking device for preventing the theft of a pedal cycle comprises an elongated U shaped locking member, the free ends of the arms of which have holes to receive the staple of a padlock, and a mounting secured to a wheel fork member and releasable gripping the closed end of the locking member, the arrangement being such that the locking member can pass through the wheel to embrace both members of the wheel fork and to position the holes outside the other fork member for receiving the padlock staple. As shown the locking member 4 has a square sectioned closed end which is gripped in a spring clip 3 on the mounting 1 secured to one fork member 5. In its operative position, shown in full lines in Fig. 2, the member 4 passes through the wheel and round both members 5 and the padlock staple can pass through the holes 9. The locking member 4 can be swung with spring action into an inoperative position, shown in dotted lines, in which it lies parallel to the member 5 and the holes 9 align with holes 7 in lugs on a clip 8 secured to the member 5 so that the padlock staple can pass through the holes 7, 9.
