Abstract

699,968. Luggage racks for vehicles. HOORN, P. H. C. VAN. Jan. 4, 1952 [Jan. 12, 1951], No. 951/51. Addition to 645,772. Class 103 (ii). A luggage carrier for the roof of a vehicle comprises a bar or tube 1 carrying at each end a strainer rod 12 secured thereto by one end for universal movement, the free end of each rod having a gutter-engaging clip 14 adjustable thereon. The tube 1 has split ends 2 closable by bolts 3 upon a sliding rod 4 at each end. To this rod is welded a flange 5, having two ball feet 6 fitting into sockets 9 mounted on resilient feet 7 which rest on the roof of the vehicle. Boss 11 is welded into an aperture in the flange and takes the head of strainer rod 12, sliding in sleeve 15 and threaded internally to take bolt 13, thus securing gutter-engaging clip 14. A tommy bar inserted into hole 17 on rod 12 will, by rotation, tighten the assemblage. A slot 10 is provided for a strap. Two such devices normally constitute the complete carrier.
