645,772. Vehicle luggage racks. HOORN, P. H. C. VAN. July 7, 1948, No. 18207. [Class 103(ii)] A roof luggage rack for a road vehicle of the kind furnished with oppositely-disposed securing devices mounted on two opposite sides of the rack and which have parts adapted to engage the roof guttering of the vehicle is held in position by tension applied through one or more pairs of adjustable strainer rods universally pivoted to the rack by one end and engaging through clips adjustably mounted on them the roof guttering on opposite sides of the vehicle. The rack, which is provided with universally mounted rubber supporting pads 1, comprises end rails 7, 9 and side rails 8, 10 to the lower members of which are connected longitudinally spaced luggage supporting rails 11 formed transversely in an inverted V-shape and connected at their apices by members 13. Intermediate its ends each side rail is provided with a yoke 15 free to pivot on a vertical axis and to which is pivoted on a horizontal axis one end 18 of a strainer rod 16. The other end of the rod 16 is threaded and provided with a clip 19 urged into engagement with the roof gutter 20 by a knurled nut 17.
