Abstract

773,828. Torque rods. BARCLAY, C. Sept. 12, 1955 [Feb. 22, 1955], No. 5338/55. Class 79(4). [Also in Group XXXII] Relates to a vehicle spring system comprising a leaf spring 10 one end of which is pivotally connected directly to a part fixed to a chassis frame 11 so as to be restrained against movement along the frame and connected at the other end to the frame by means which permit relative longitudinal movement and an anchorage 15, for fixing a wheel axle 13 to an intermediate part of the spring. According to the invention a rod or bar 21 is pivotally connected at one end to the chassis frame at a locality lying substantially in a vertical plane intersecting the pivoted end of the spring and at the other end is pivotally connected to the spring anchorage 15 or a part secured thereto. As shown the ends of the rod 21 are threaded at 22 and slotted at 23 to receive a threaded shank 27 which is then clamped in adjusted position by a bolt 26. The shank is provided with a resilient bush 30, 31, 32 through which extends a pivot bolt 33, for connecting one end of the rod between two lugs 34 depending from the spring anchor plate 15 and for connecting the other end of the rod between two plates 36 extending from spring anchor brackets 12. The plates 36 may be cranked to avoid the use of distance pieces 37. In a modification the rod may be non-adjustable in length.
