Abstract
441,951. Luggage-carriers. AUSTIN, A. T., The Bungalow, Eckershall Road, Kings Norton, Birmingham. Oct. 25, 1934, No. 30570. [Class 136 (i)] A pannier frame or side carrier for motorcycles, adapted to be connected at its upper part to the rear carrier, mudguard, &c. of the cycle, is provided at its lower part with an adjustable screw tension device adapted to be engaged with a stud or other part on the cycle for attachment purposes. The side frame comprises vertical members a of strip metal &c. connected by horizontal members a<1> and bent outwards at a<2> to form, with a longitudinal rail a3, a support for a valise, parcel, &c. Two upright strips a<5> are hooked at a<6> for engagement with the side rail b<1> of the ordinary carrier. A U-shaped clip c is slidably mounted for adjustment on the top rail a<1> and is engaged by a screwed vertical rod d, which is formed at its lower end with a loop d<2> or hook for engagement with the rear wheel splindle &c. or with a stud e associated with the carrier stays b, the rod d being clamped in position by nuts d<1>. The hooks a<6> may alternatively be engaged with a frame or saddle-like member straddling the mudguard ; or the uprights a<5> may be continued over the mudguard and support a similar side carrier on the opposite side of the wheel.
