Abstract

491,480. Attaching bags &c. to cycles etc.; hook fastenings. BIRCH, E. DE G. Dec. 30, 1937, No. 36071. [Class 136 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] A device for attaching bags and other carriers to cycle saddles and other supporting articles comprises a pair of spaced lug-like members which are carried by the bag or carrier or by a plate attached thereto and project forwardly from a pair of operating finger-pieces, so that they can be engaged in apertures in the saddle &c. by pressing the bag &c. towards the saddle &c., and disengaged by moving them in opposite directions, against spring action, by means of the finger-pieces, and then pulling the bag &c. away from the saddle &c. A saddle bag 1 is provided with a metal &c. strip 4 attached by bolts 5, on which are pivoted strip-metal members 6 of U-form having their outer limbs bent to form hook-like projecting lugs 8, which are adapted to engage the usual eyes 3 in the saddle 2, under the action of a tension spring 10. The pivoted members 6 are formed with finger-pieces 12, whereby they may be swung apart to disengage the lugs 8 from the eyes 3. In order to prevent swinging of the bag, a long coiled tension spring, or a rubber band 14 is secured by clips 21 to a leather &c. panel 20 mounted on the bolts 5, and is adapted to be looped around a transverse abutment 16, 17 on a clip 19 embracing the saddle pillar 15.
