Abstract

751,080. Luggage-carriers for vehicles. SOC. DU CAOUTCHOUC NORMAND. Sept. 2, 1954 [Sept. 2, 1953; April 3, 1954; Aug. 9, 1954], No. 25532/54. Class 103 (2). A luggage carrier for the roof of a vehicle comprises two or more strips of metal or other flexible material adapted to be attached to the roof, for example, by hooks 3, Fig. 1, and provided with spacing members 6 and with adjustable carrier blocks 7 which provide a seating for the luggage. As shown, each strip is in two portions 1, 2 connected by a turnbuckle 5. The blocks 7 have slots c for the passage of the strips and holes 8 for the passage of securing ropes. In addition to the blocks 7 (shown as corner-shaped) there may also be double-angle-pieces fitted between the corner blocks. In a modification the strap in two portions is replaced by a single strap 9, Fig. 6, which is provided at each end with a hook and with a buckle. Carrier blocks 26 are provided with feet 30 which rest on the vehicle roof, and are formed with slots 27 for the strap and with slots 34 for passage of a bar 35. The bar serves as a support for long articles, e.g. a pair of skis and is provided with holes 36, 37 for attachment of a spring 38 which can be anchored to the bar by hooks 39. In a further constriction the comer blocks are formed of U-section so that long articles may be held edgewise between the limbs of the U-shaped blocks.
